Hunter Workers welcomes offshore wind energy project

Updated: Sep 27, 2024

The Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen has announced this morning his government’s intentions to establish offshore wind energy projects in Australia, of which the Hunter region has been considered a potential zone.

The establishment of the offshore wind industry in the region would support thousands of jobs and inject millions of dollars into the local economy.

Hunter Workers welcomes Labor’s announcement and the vast opportunities this project would provide to the region and its workers.

Leigh Shears, Hunter Workers Secretary:

“The establishment of the offshore wind industry is well-needed for the future prosperity of the Hunter region.

"We warmly welcome prospects for this investment and the opportunities it will generate for Hunter workers.

"We hope to work closely with the Labor government to ensure local workers are appropriately consulted and prioritised.”
