NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey has proposed drastic cost-cutting reforms to Workers Comp that will strip back the rights of workers and make it near impossible for traumatised workers to access the mental health care and financial support they need.

Under the proposed changes, psychological injuries resulting solely from work pressure would no longer qualify for compensation, and workers seeking compensation for sexual harassment or bullying would be required to take their case to court or a tribunal.
Injured workers experiencing bullying or harassment would be forced into conciliation or mediation before being allowed to pursue compensation, meaning genuinely injured workers would be left without income and legal representation while dealing with a complex and bureaucratic process.
The changes will affect all workers, but particularly our critical Frontline Workers such as doctors, nurses, midwives, community and disability sector workers, teachers, and corrections workers.
Hunter Workers condemns Daniel Mookhey's attack on the rights of injured workers, and calls on all Hunter NSW MPs to stand up and speak out against the planned reforms. The NSW Government must withdraw its proposed NSW Workers Compensation cuts and engage Unions, representing all working people across NSW, in fair and reasonable consultation before rushing these reforms into law.
